Understand inherited risk and early-onset clues
Price: HK$2,300
COGENESIS® AD focuses on genetic factors associated with Alzheimer’s disease, helping doctors review inherited risk and early-onset clues. The result adds context to clinical assessment but does not diagnose Alzheimer’s disease on its own.
What the test covers
The test covers six commonly related genes: APP, PSEN1, PSEN2, APOE, TREM2 and MAPT. APOE genotype may also provide information about Alzheimer’s disease risk and certain treatment-related risk considerations.
Samples may be saliva or blood. The report time is around 4 weeks, counted after the sample reaches the laboratory and meets testing requirements.
Who may consider it
This genetic test may be suitable for people under 65 with cognitive changes, individuals with a family history of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, those who want to understand inherited risk, or patients whose doctor would like to clarify possible genetic factors.
How It Differs From P-TAU 217
| Item | COGENESIS® AD | P-TAU 217 |
|---|---|---|
| Testing focus | Assessment of inherited risk and early-onset Alzheimer’s disease related genetic clues. | A blood biomarker test that supports assessment of tau pathology associated with Alzheimer’s disease. |
| Key content | Covers six commonly related genes: APP, PSEN1, PSEN2, APOE, TREM2 and MAPT. APOE genotype can also be reviewed when appropriate. | Measures plasma phosphorylated tau 217 (p-Tau217). When clinically indicated, doctors may interpret it together with APOE or Aβ42/40 information. |
| Who may consider it | People under 65 with cognitive changes, a family history of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, or concerns about inherited risk. | People with memory or cognitive symptoms who need supportive biomarker information for Alzheimer’s disease related pathology. |
| Sample type | Saliva or blood. | Blood. |
| Report time | Around 4 weeks. | Around 10 to 14 working days. |
| Interpretation | Results provide genetic risk information or possible clues; they are not a clinical diagnosis by themselves. | Results are usually presented against reference intervals and should be interpreted with symptoms, history, cognitive assessment, imaging or other tests. |
Medical Note
Genetic test results reflect inherited risk or possible clues. They do not mean a person has Alzheimer’s disease or will definitely develop it. Results should be interpreted by a doctor together with personal history, symptoms, cognitive assessment and other investigations.
