Computed Tomography (CT), also known as a CT scan, is an advanced, non-invasive diagnostic imaging procedure. By combining traditional X-rays with sophisticated computer processing technology, the scanner rotates 360 degrees around the body to capture highly detailed cross-sectional images. These images are significantly more comprehensive than standard X-rays, providing doctors with crystal-clear views of internal organs, bones, blood vessels, and soft tissues for accurate diagnosis.
Generally, a routine CT scan is highly safe and does not cause direct side effects. Although it involves radiation, our advanced low-dose equipment keeps exposure to a minimum. For scans requiring a contrast medium, a very small number of patients might experience a mild, temporary allergic reaction (such as a warm flush or slight nausea), but severe allergies are exceptionally rare.
A contrast medium is a medical dye used to enhance the visibility of specific blood vessels, organs, or tissues on the scan images. Whether you need an injection depends entirely on the body part being examined and your doctor’s diagnostic requirements. Routine bone or basic chest scans usually do not require it.
The actual scanning time inside the machine is incredibly brief, often taking just a few seconds to a few minutes. However, you should allow approximately 15 to 30 minutes for the entire process, which includes preparation, positioning, changing clothes, and administering contrast dye if required.
